Forging elements of power pop, punk, and the intensity of hardcore, Kowabunga! Kid was formed in Urbana, Illinois by guitarist / songwriter Aaron Shults with bassist Kamila Glowacki and featured a rotating cast of drummers (most recently and with the longest tenure, Jake Mott).

 

Often a three piece, the band is able to twist and contort their songs into displays of rambunctious energy; a whole new take on the instant familiarity of their catchy, infectious songwriting. Since their inception the band has put out genre spanning releases on tape and vinyl via Rat King Records and toured all over the United States (and one province in Canada). 

 

It’s 2025 and the now Chicago based Kowabunga! Kid has one final effort – the “kkdreamin’ mixtape.” A culmination of the project’s previous efforts and a creative blackhole that prevented Shults from moving on to anything new. Feeling the urgency to get these riffs to tape and play some final shows as an act to put the project to rest, Shults called upon everyone that has been a part of the project in its storied history (Glowacki, Mott, Kyle Lang, John Menchaca, and Sean Neumann) to be apart of the band’s final release. After years of self-referential lyrics and riffs Kowabunga! Kid truly mean it when they say “It Ends”
